The end of the year is usually a time of reflection for me. One thing that stands out is how Contentstack has grown in our commitment and efforts surrounding giving.
First things first: today, we announced our partnership with Pledge 1% to place 1% of our revenue into equity to fund future Contentstack Cares initiatives. Since 2018, we’ve partnered with Pledge 1% to donate our time, product, and revenue. So expanding to equity seemed like a natural next step for Contentstack; giving is an integral part of our company culture. It’s even ingrained in our values: “we care deeply about our customers and the communities we serve.”
But it’s been a growth process for us. Contentstack Cares started off as a day we simply made available for employees to take off to volunteer. There can be a lot of pressure around that — work still has to be done, meetings still have to be covered, and customers still need to be served. So, we initially only saw a handful of people take the day off to give back to their community.
When Contentstack Cares day rolled around in March of this year, the Dreamguard – our executive leadership team – and I realized that if we wanted to see people take advantage of the day, we would have to be vocal about it and model the behavior. We put out calls in our Contentstack Cares Slack channel to encourage people and give them an easy way to take action – and also shared our plans.
Pretty soon, we started to see that excitement come back from the rest of our Contentstack tribe. And they had lots of ideas.
We saw people packing boxes for homeless shelters, volunteering efforts for Ukrainian refugee centers, picking up trash in their local parks — and so much more. They put their creativity and enthusiasm to work.
It never stopped after Contentstack Cares Day. We have a vibrant Contentstack Cares Slack channel filled with messages from our team volunteering their time, money, and energy throughout the year. We’ve even built on that momentum with so many other initiatives:
Our Virar, India office cleaned up their beaches for Earth Day (pictured below).
For International Literacy Day, our employees in the US, EMEA, and India read books to local children and donated their used books.
We’re currently participating in America’s Turkey Trot virtual race, which raises money for World Central Kitchen. Our Contentstack employees have raised over $2,000 so far.
Contentstack Cares became a way we live and a way we work.
But we didn’t start here or by pledging 1% of our equity. We started with one day of volunteering.
