We believe that dedicated volunteers enhance the growth, vitality and sustainability of charitable organizations. The Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program (the “Program”) provides Twilions the opportunity to support our community through volunteer activities during company work hours based on the criteria listed below. This Program is entirely voluntary, and employees are not required to participate. Moreover, Twilio does not control or direct employees in completing the volunteer work.

WHO’S ELIGIBLE?

All regular, full-time and part-time employees (working at least 30 hours per week) are eligible starting on their first day of employment.

VTO GUIDELINES

  • This Program provides Twilions the opportunity to provide volunteer services and/or skills to eligible charitable organizations during company work hours;
  • Twilions may engage in volunteer activities for up to 20 hours per year during company work hours;
  • The hours must be scheduled, and we suggest that the hours be completed in at least one (1) hour increments. Each
  • hour spent away from the regularly-scheduled workday is considered part of the 20-hour allotment;
    VTO hours do not constitute working time and thus has no impact on calculating overtime;
  • VTO will expire at the end of each calendar year and is not paid out as a time off benefit when employees exit the Company;
  • VTO does not qualify for the Matching Gift Program (because you are being compensated to volunteer your time);
  • Employees may use VTO hours to volunteer individually, as part of a team activity, or as part of company activities
  • coordinated by the Social Impact team.
  • For individual activities, employees are responsible for identifying and coordinating the volunteer activities on their own. Tips and tools for finding volunteer activities are available here and in the Benevity portal.

VTO REQUESTS, APPROVAL AND RECORDINGS

  • Prior to volunteering, all employees are required to request and receive written approval from their manager for a VTO-related work absence. This can be done via email. All employees should provide managers a minimum of ten (10) days’ notice prior to the activity to consider the request.
  • The VTO absence must be approved by the employee’s manager prior to engaging in the volunteer activity.
  • International employees and non-exempt US employees must also submit a VTO leave request in Workday (similar to a
  • PTO or Jury Duty request); and
  • For international employees, VTO hours are in addition to your annual PTO allotment.

ELIGIBLE CHARITY CRITERIA

Twilio will consider providing support only to organizations that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Qualify as a tax-exempt organization or equivalent status in the jurisdiction in which the organization is located (in the United States, the organization would have to qualify under section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code);
  • Do not otherwise violate or conflict with Twilio’s Code of Conduct;
  • Do not make it a policy to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, ethnicity,
  • disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation, or any other protected class in accordance with applicable law;
  • Do not and will not give rise to a conflict of interest; and
  • Have sound financial management.

Religious organizations with secular programming are also eligible if, in addition to the criteria listed above, they meet the following requirements:

  •  A donation to a religious organization is eligible if the donation is designated to an ongoing secular community service program that does not propagate a belief in a specific faith. The service cannot be limited exclusively to the organization's members. These programs must have a formal mission and a separate program budget. Examples include homeless projects, food banks, shelters, and literacy programs.
