Measuring volunteer impact

Hello Pledge 1% Community!

I'm curious how the Pledge 1% network measures the impact of their volunteer teams.  Does anyone have any frameworks, volunteer assessments,  general insights, etc. that you would be willing to share?

Zylo is a relatively small company, but we measure impact by:

  • Volunteer hours (Prior to 2020, we only tracked volunteer hours in support of a registered nonprofit, but in recognition of the overwhelming need experienced in 2020 and 2021, we expanded it to any hours spent supporting the community. We get to a dollar impact by multiplying hours volunteered by the Independent Sector’s national value of each volunteer hour, currently $28.54)
  • Direct contributions (For general impact reporting, we count total donated to a 501c3, but for financials we break it down by the amount that was a tax deductible donation.)
  • Dollars donated through the employee referral program (Internal new hire referrals get a bonus of $250 to donate to the organization of their choice)

Since we’re still small, our philanthropic employee resource group works closely with Finance to reconcile dollars donated, but we use a g-sheet and google forms to track volunteer hours. Hope this helps!
