Last week's APAC workshop on expanding Pledge 1% - leveraging keynote presentations at start-up hubs - was a successful first step.
We already have 5 volunteers as keynote speakers/panellists (4 in Australia, 1 in India) and 2 start-up hubs based in Sydney willing to provide presentation slots at the their regular member events. We hope to have one in India soon as well.
@mariellaxamana will help coordinate our activities and marketing support materials for the initial events with the start-up hubs already lined up and then the intention is to expand this program across more start-hubs across multiple APAC countries with a broader list of Pledge 1% members as keynote speakers.
Our next call is scheduled for 3pm AEST on Tuesday 12 July.
Please contact @mariellaxamana or @MangalaMartinus if you missed last week's call and would like to join and/or receive the minutes from that workshop.
Regards
Mangala

Hi everyone!
A couple of updates on this initiative. Currently, we are coordinating to secure slots with 4 start-up hubs based in Sydney. There are a few more we could reach out to discuss this approach so it will be better to get more volunteer speakers. We have all the materials needed so if you want to know more about this, please feel free to reply to this thread.
If you are outside Sydney but are interested to do this initiative in your location, we are happy to support and provide you with the information and marketing materials.
We will post further updates once we have details from the 4 Sydney start-up hubs.
We look forward to hearing from you!

We are making some progress on this initiative!
Happy to share that the first session happened over a week ago at UTS Startup Hub. Pledge 1% members @MangalaMartinus @KateK and Tom Lipczynski attended to speak about 'How building in a giving pledge has delivered purpose, impact & profit'. You can watch the recording of the live streams below:
We were also given a slot in the Fishburners newsletter to promote what Pledge 1% is about.
Other things are still in progress and we will update here once again once for any updates! If you want to be part of this, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you!

Thank you for spreading the word! We love having startups adopt the P1 model from day one. Hope the presentation went well!

Thanks @Lindsey_P1. Some great conversations have happened as a result of the presentations done to date.
I've also had the APAC head of one global firm that operates out of one of the hubs request the Pledge 1% pack so that he can champion it within his organisation. That firm happens to compete with us in an industry segment and two of our recent hires were also offered roles with that firm but joined us because our Giving Program and philosophy better aligned with their values. Hence, his interest in the program!
We also received good feedback from the panel discussion (with three Pledge 1% members) that we ran with one of the university start-up hubs. Like with anything, I expect that it's the constant messaging from multiple sources done over time that will create awareness and action. Hence, the success of what we are doing may take a while to flow through, but you have to start somewhere. The collaboration between Pledge 1% members in Australia to get this going and maintain the momentum has also been a nice outcome as we are learning from each other in the process.

Mark Reading, Head of the Atlassian Foundation, will talk about how Pledge 1% encourages business founders to pledge 1% of equity, 1% of profit, 1% of their people's time and 1% of their products to a social cause they are passionate about.
