This event was part of Pledge 1% COVID Coalition and was originally recorded on December 3, 2020.

The global pandemic and its economic implications impacted businesses, employees, customers, families, and communities all over the world. As a global movement for social impact, we knew we were in a unique position to convene, aggregate resources, and amplify opportunities to make a difference.

The Pledge 1% community and companies in the Bay Area came together to form a Coalition to support three incredible grant-making institutions: The United Nations Foundation, the CDC Foundation, and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. We've become so much more in the months since. We've become a strong Coalition of companies to weather not only the effects of the pandemic, but to support one another through business challenges, to work hard to fight racial injustices, to accelerate social movements, to ensure the safety, well-being, and health of our employees and families -- and to build back stronger together.

Stop the Spread was founded in March by Rachel Romer Carlson, founder and CEO of Guild Education, and Ken Chenault, former American Express CEO, as a coalition of 1300+ volunteer business leaders working to catalyze the private sector response to COVID-19. Since June, Stop the Spread has been program of ImpactAssets.

Stop the Spread continues to address the evolving critical needs of the pandemic. The team identifies and vets novel solutions and provides innovators with capacity building support, including access to impact investment and philanthropic capital through ImpactAssets’ COVID Response Funds.

Leveraging capabilities in research, partnerships and coalition building, STS serves the historically underserved communities hit hardest by COVID-19. STS’ partner network totals over 350 companies and organizations and has resulted in more than 170 value-added connections. In turn, these relationships have spurred production of more than 40,000 ventilators and 20 million units of PPE, supported development of novel diagnostics and therapeutics, and promoted equitable allocation of resources.
